The Redneck Arena has become a popular venue for many of my stories. This is very surprising as it was initially created for only one story (Bodybuilder’s Destruction), but then took on a life of its own. So here is the “official” version of the history of the redneck area.

The Redneck Arena. Of course, that wasn't the official name of the place but no one remembered what that was. The Redneck Arena was used by an 'underground' wrestling circuit where the action could be, and often was, rougher and more brutal than what was normally allowed.
The Redneck Arena actually started out as a local indy wrestling federation. Usually, when such federations start, they have a name, but usually not a roster. They are open to anyone who wishes to wrestle either for free or for a small fee. The crowds are usually small and the events are sporadic at best. There isn’t a lot of money paid or made. That was initially true of this federation.
As time went on, the same wrestlers began to appear and a fan base was established. As happens with any group of testosterone fueled alpha males, rivalries, disagreements and competitions began to take shape. As these developed, and the stories around them began to circulate, the crowds began to increase in size. As a result, the facilities could be improved and the wrestling also improved.
Thus, in a very short period of time a series of “determination” or “end” matches developed. These were matches that were the culmination, or final bouts, to feuds or continuing issues between wrestlers. They were called “end” matches, because many of the wrestlers left after their defeats or because of contract terms were not able to wrestler there anymore. These matches became hard fought and more intense, which of course the crowds loved. Many of the wrestlers brought in “managers” or “bodyguards” to help protect against the other wrestlers and even the fans.
The wrestlers, and their seconds, became even more inventive. It all finally come to a head after a match involving Samson and Skull. Samson had managed to defeat Skull, thus ending their rivalry as per the match stipulation Skull could no longer wrestle in the federation.
Unfortunately for Samson, Skull was liked by the fans in attendance that night. On his way back to the dressing room, he had been jumped by several of the locals. Since security was being provided by the local motorcycle club, of which Skull was a member, they had "more pressing matters to attend to." While the rest of the matches were being held, Samson had been passed among the crowd where he was ganged banged and used as a sex slave. After the other matches were over and the arena had cleared out, Samson had been found shackled to a pillar in the middle of the crowd section of the arena. His right tit had been pierced but otherwise no serious damage had been done, except to his pride and ego. (Interestingly enough, he kept the nipple piercing and even made some changes to it. It came in useful in a match or two). After that, fan involvement had become more common and in many matches the losers (and in some instances the winners) were taken by the crowd for their personal entertainment.
While making the crowds happy, the management and the wrestlers were concerned that this could get out of hand. (Many of the wrestlers actually approved of these activities until they became the recipients of them.) Thus, was born the “caged ring”. This was not designed as a “typical” cage match and both management and the wrestlers wanted to be able to see and do regular wrestling movements. Thus, this design was approved. The ring sat in the middle of the floor. About fifteen feet from the ring, on all sides, stood a chain link fence, along with a roof made of chain link as well. It was very well built and was designed as a “permanent” structure. The fence had been installed along with a similar fence covering the walk to and from the dressing area. This completely separated the wrestlers from the fans as they were able to enter and exit without having to interact directly with the fans. While many federations frowned on such an idea, it only encouraged the fans and the wrestlers. While looking at the final setup, one worker had complained that it looked like a redneck wrestling ring. Management liked the name, and felt it would help draw a crowd, thus was born the unofficial name “The Redneck Arena” which over time became the only name the arena was called or known for.
While this had cut down on fan "participation" it did not totally eliminate it. In one of the more nefarious, and famous episodes, one member of the championship tag team had been cuffed to the fence and forced to give blow jobs to members of the audience while his partner was given a brutal beating. Their opponents had drawn out the inevitable loss, to give more fans an opportunity at the champion’s mouth. Of course, they had lost the belts. Other suggestions for improving security had been proposed but rejected by both wrestlers and fans alike. As a matter of fact, the attendance had never been better. What frustrated fans the most was that no cameras or cellphones were allowed into the arena and security to check for those were tight. After all, the league wanted to sell tickets, not put the fights up for free on the internet.
Due to the recent popularity of the matches, the league had actually managed to secure a larger arena for some of their matches. It had premium box seating and even a jumbotron.
The fans were a peculiar bunch of people. They came from all walks of lives and professions but the tended to be of a rougher variety. And their allegiances were, by and far, pretty fickle. You could come in the match the favorite and leave hated and vice versa. What the fans really wanted was wild and out of control action, cheating, and duplicity, not friendly competition.
To further help explain the Redneck Arena, I have enclosed several Q&As from the Commissioner:
Why does the league continue to use referees?? Why not let the matches just be free for alls?
Well not all the matches are that intense. There are still some routine matches as wrestlers learn and mature. Also, we have found that the fans prefer there be some degree of “control.” It does add more tension to the match. Plus, let’s be honest, many of the fans love it when the heels sneak something by the ref, or pulls a fast one on their opponents. In Free for Alls there isn’t that tension, that excitement.
Some of your matches include sexual situation. Do all wrestlers know this possible?
In the early days, these provisions weren’t even considered as it was not a thought on anyone’s mind. The Samson situation and subsequent changed that. Now, we actually have contract provisions to prevent “unwanted” sexual situations. If these provisions are not waved, then no sexual situations occur. For legal reasons these provisions are strictly enforced. If these provisions are waved, then there are limits built in so that no one is seriously or permanently hurt. Most wrestlers wave these because they want to inflict humiliation on their opponents. Almost all are stunned when they get turned back on themselves. We have only had one situation were these provisions were not waved (see Bruce in A Family Affair),but since that involved someone who was not supposed to be involved in the action anyway (plus the extreme embarrassment that flowed from that match) he chose not to carry it any further.
Are there any plans to move to the larger arena permanently?
Funny you should l mention that. We have just concluded contract negotiations and will be moving to the large arena for the foreseeable future. We have the fan base and can also rent out the facility for other events, though the main draw will be the Redneck Arena.
Wow. I originally read the Family Affair story years ago, and I'm so happy to find there's more. I love this world building you are doing. Please keep it up.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it and the stories. Trying to keep them alive but since writers block at the moment.
