Ex Marine vs Young Cub

Ex-Marine vs. Young Cub

Guys like that really pissed me off. You know the type. Ex-military, retired, crotchety old bastards that think they are the only ones who know how to do anything right. They sit around and bark orders, looking for an excuse to tell a younger guy that they're not doing whatever they're doing the right way. You tell yourself, if you can show the old fucker that he's wrong, it would be worth any price. Unfortunately, you rarely ask yourself exactly what price that might be…

TAG-TEAM CHALLENGE

It was a warm, and early summer morning when Mike was working on the New York State I-90, paving stretches of the highway. He enjoyed his job for many reasons among them was because he loved working outdoors in the hot summer sun, tanning his already dark Italian skin. Mike loved working without his shirt and was not ashamed to show off his 230 lb. muscle frame of 6’-2”, 51” chest, 32” waist, and 20” arms.

Frank had been to the store and seeing the lights on in the garage walked in on our little celebration.  We couldn’t let him miss all the fun, could we?

My recon mission proved what Dave had told me.  Each man would work the rugged stud over, pretty much when and where they wanted to, but Dave’s fear of Frank was fully justified.  It was one thing to face someone in the ring and lose to a stronger and superior fighter, shit, how well I know that!  Sure, when Dave kicked my ass, he’d usually follow up with some humiliation and intimidation, but Frank seems to have perfected the art of total physical and mental domination.  In a fight, he would twist, crush and tear at his man’s helpless physique until the guy was totally destroyed.  Hell, even when Dave was just sitting on the couch, Frank was walking behind him and clamped on a vicious nerve lock on Dave’s traps.  The poor sap didn’t expect a thing, then one second later he’s helplessly screaming in terror and agony.  The kind of sneak attack that you’d pull on a little brother.

Dave became more and more reclusive after he got the clear message that none of us were happy about his domineering attitude.  At first, we enjoyed the break, but as the days turned into weeks, I began to really miss the play fighting that went on.  Actually, work started to get real boring.  There were only a few of us that used the weights out back, no one had the motivation that they had before.

It was a nice day at work, not to warm, not too cool. I knew it was going to be a great day, especially after I got the progress report from my buddy first thing this morning.  Phil is not only a successful bodybuilder, but also holds a second-degree black belt in Karate and knows how to use it.  When he got to Dave’s gym last night, there were too many people around so he waited outside.  He watched the whole thing as the three big muscle dudes beat the tar out of the tough muscleman.  I guess the big guy pissed off the wrong man this time.  Phil said the beating got so bad he almost jumped in to help Dave out before he remembered that he was there to do the same thing. It sounded like the guys had a lot of fun, I really wished I had been there to see it.

I’ve always been a fair fighter.  I give a man a chance and after he’s beaten, I always let up and allow him to lose with dignity, well almost always.  Well, let’s say most of the time.  I mean sure, I’ll teach him a lesson and leave him with the clear understanding that it’s a major mistake to fight me, but I don’t really go out to destroy some guy and have never inflicted the kind of humiliation Dave administered to me.  It’s bad enough to beat a man in his own gym, especially the gym champ!  I mean, I have a reputation to uphold.  I was undefeated, I was THE MAN.  This kid comes in AS MY GUEST and not only shows me up in weightlifting, the bastard doesn’t quit until he’s wiped up the ring with my musclebound ass!

I’m getting sick and tired of this kid lording over me.  It’s kind of funny to see him intimidate the rest of the guys, but I’ve spent too much time in the gym building this body up only to be rendered subservient to some cruiserweight kid!  There HAS to be something I can do and Dave gave me a clue the other day.  The kid wants competition and can’t find any.  I know that he can kick my ass wrestling and I don’t have much of a chance facing those legendary fists, but there is one area where this big bodybuilder can drive even Dave’s rugged muscles into the dirt!

Things went along pretty much as before.  Dave continued his intimidation of everyone around him, while at the same time acting as though there was nothing going on.  It was really amazing to watch. Dave was a lot of fun to be around and everyone enjoyed his company, so much so, that we all ignored the fact that when he wanted to “play around” one or more of us would end up hurting.  To him it always seemed like great fun, but to us there was always a clear message, a reminder of his amazing power and total domination of every man there.  “Every Man” now included the big bodybuilder.

Warehouse Punk I

Short of money and long on time, I needed work and a friend said there was a warehouse hiring down at the docks.  The economy in East Texas had caused a major slowdown in housing construction and the money was OK.  This part of Texas gets pretty warm in the summer and working in the shade for once, had a certain appeal. As I signed up, the boss looked me over and hired me on the spot.  He didn’t even check my application and responded “I’d say you’ve got perfect credentials for this job”.
