Anniversary

Anniversary -- thank you.

Tomorrow will mark the 3rd anniversary of me starting my blog.  A big shout out to Alex Miller (The Cave) for giving me the inspiration to start writing again.  I had a 15 year "dry" spell.  I hope you all have enjoyed the blog (old stories and new).  I have no plans to discontinue or stop it, but postings will be more erratic as writing isn't coming as easily as it used to.

To help me out, in the comments section, tell me your favorite hold and I will try to incorporate into future stories.  Also, which characters would you like to see more of?

Also, what are other wrestling fiction sites that you read and/or like??

  1. Happy Anniversary! As for favorite holds/moves - always like the classic submission holds - camel clutches and boston crabs. Humiliation moves like the stinkface and bronco busters are fun, as are the tree of woe and going around the world (head slammed into all turnbuckles). The hidden blade finisher is brutal, and I enjoy watching a guy succumb to a nasty sleeper. But I will always love watching a guy go out to a mandible claw, or a skull crushing claw, or to a brutal "Master Lock"-style full nelson. As for characters... I hope the Gould Brothers (aka the Gold and Star brothers at this point) aren't done getting put through the wringer. Best wishes for dodging writer's block!

  2. Congratulations! And if I’m in anyway responsible for inspiring your comeback then that’s my greatest accomplishment! Yay me! Oh, and yay you, as well.

Hold-wise, I always like the single leg crab, because the ref has to be down on the mat checking on the victim for a submission while the guy on top has a free hand and dangling junk like right there. And I agree with the guy above … the Masterlock full nelson is a great one, too.

Perhaps it’s recency bias, but Marshall “Gold” seems like a glutton for punishment. Like, is there anyone - brother, heels, faces - that he hasn’t pissed off? Even his father must want some revenge for the repeated family humiliation. Or maybe he’s as big a jobber as his sons.

    1. Oh, and the fiction sites I read, other than your blog, are three: GayDemon, Nifty, and Telemachus. I'd say there is content on all three that I like, although I obviously don't like everything on them.

    2. Thanks for the comments, always appreciated. I also use those three sites for fictional reading.

    3. Oh those are good sites! I also like to check out Shattered Honor. Globalfights used to have a good upkeep in stories but it's fallen off now.

  3. Love that you are writing again Mangler! While you were away, I really read up on The Cave; I still do re-read a lot of stories on Alex's page (Great job Alex!!!).

Personally I'm a sucker for the single leg crab cause you can do so much damage with it especially pair it with a ballclaw when the ref isn't looking. My all time favorite is just the classic power bomb: to be able to slam a guy into the mat multiple time to me just a display of raw power and it is super attractive.

I wouldn't mind seeing what happens with the bodybuilder Todd. My all time favorite jobber has to be Cumface. Takes a beating and keeps going. With what's he's handled in the Campgrounds, might as well call him a power jobber and power bottom!

    1. Thanks for the comments. I also love a good Boston Crab since it can get the ref out of the way for a little extracurricular activity. Bodybuilder Todd was the original inspiration for the redneck arena and was supposed to be a one off, but I have since added two more stories and have a couple of more upcoming.

Cumface Dan will always be one of my favorites. He was requested by a fan and was modeled on himself. I'm trying to keep him from becoming a caricature, but also need to write what fans like. My biggest mistake with him is failing to include his asian heritage into his description, since that is what the original fan asked for. Trying to do better.

    2. I think your writing of Cumface is fantastic! As long as you get some good wrestling in, I think you'll have no worries about Dan turning into some troupe; he's actually a pretty good wrestler. It just happens that everyone he wrestles is better, and he looks great suffering! If he wrestled some Joe off the street in another city or federation (even guys from The Cave), i think he would hold is own very well.

  4. Seems that the Goulds are more popular that I realized. I think that is funny because Marshall was supposed to be in only one story and then be done. However, Marshall would not leave me alone and insisted on getting some revenge hence the follow up. (And yes, fictional characters can take on a life of their own. I would be doing something and all of a sudden Marshall would pop up in my brain, so I went with it.) In May another Gould story is coming out, but was written before these comments so probably is going to be much different that what has been asked for. We will just have to wait and see what else the future holds.

  5. ChatFighters has some good cyber matches but no easy way to sort/search for them... including a lot of archived stuff from old yahoo groups.

  6. In your sidebar you have Confessions of a Wrestling Jobber which doesn't update too often but I always go back and read some of the gems there. There's also one called Story of a Jobber (http://jobberstory.blogspot.com/) - it hasn't been updated in almost a decade but the stories are still fun to revisit.

    1. Wow, I haven’t thought of Story of a Jobber in a long time. There was one ‘story’ there called “Until You Beg” that I just loved. Just six paragraphs but there was something about it that excited me a lot. I need to read it again.

    2. I LOVE both of those sites. On humiliation of a jobber, there is a story by ringgggdog which i love. He writes way over the top stories of jobber destruction. I used to have many more of his stories (wrestling at the mall, some mountain view wrestling) but i lost them 😩 and haven't been able to find them again. I believe they were on the old yahoo groups.

  7. In terms of pure power play I like the classic full nelson; you crush your opponent and show them they have no chance against you. Doen't give you much room for dirty tactics though which is my only complaint.

This might go back to far in history, but I've always wanted to see Craig and Big John again from The Showdown story.

    1. I Will have to review that one and see if anything pops to mind. It was one of my favorites. I LOVE matches where the jobber gets screwed by the contract he signed.

  8. One of my favourite holds would be the spladle. Humiliating and vulnerable… although agree with the Boston crab as another excellent hold. Next in line would be a torture rack, full Nelson or even a dragon sleeper.

Definitely spladle for pure humiliation. By far my favorite wrestler is Cumface. Takes a beating and keeps coming back just like a really good jobber.
One of the older stories you've written, John's Ballbashing , was awesome. Just pure ballbusting pain
